Summary
A chronic inflammatory stimulus can lead to a squamous metaplasia of the prostatic glandular epithelium and of the transitional elements covering the ductal structures. The same metaplasia may occur in case of estrogen excess and without an inflammatory pathogenesis. Tipically, this tissue alteration occurs in estrogen secreting testicular neoplasia (sertolioma).
The ultrasonographic features of a prostatic squamous metaplasia are not specific and our experience agrees with the bibliography.
