Summary

The term deafness means the reduction of the ability of an organism to sense environmental sound vibrations. Deafness in dogs, as in other species, although known by always aroused in recent years a progressive interest because of growing evidence of genetic-based congenital forms, which determine significant medical and economic problems. The objective of this review is to provide information about canine congenital hearing loss that can allow the framing of the disease from etiological and diagnostic point of views in order to set the correct control plans.
